Overview
Naph Care is hiring a FT Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team of medical professionals in the Santa Cruz County Jail located in Santa Cruz, CA.
As a Correctional Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
, you will work under the supervision of a psychiatrist, alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals, to provide mental health assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans for the facility residents. Working within a controlled environment where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have a variety of duties to keep you engaged. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex mental health needs.
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnosing mental health conditions to facility residents, protecting the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population. Additional responsibilities may include and not be limited to:
- Assessing, diagnosing and treating patients with psychiatric disorders
- Medication management including prescribing, adjusting, and discontinuing medication as needed
- Maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records, including assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes
- Responding to psychiatric emergencies, providing immediate interventions and safety protocols within the facility
- Coordinating, leading, and participating in educational training activities related to mental health care
- Ensuring compliance with State and Federal mandates and regulations, including court mandates and standards
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including correctional staff, psychologists, social workers and other medical professionals to develop and implement treatment plans and ensuring staff are responsive to patients’ needs
Education / Licenses / Certifications
- Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in CA
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in California
- A current DEA registration in CA
- Valid AHA BLS CPR card
Experience / Requirements / Qualifications / Skills
- Experience with underserved and marginalized populations, including those with mental health and substance use disorders
- Strong communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse individuals, including other medical professionals and correctional staff
- Strong written communication, verbal communication, and computer skills
- Strong assessment and diagnostic skills
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
Professional Conduct and Screening
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Display integrity, professionalism and adhere to a Code of Conduct and all facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
Physical Capabilities
Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
