About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse to join an Emergency Room team in Santa Cruz, CA. The ER RN will provide timely, safe, and comprehensive nursing care to patients presenting with a wide range of medical, surgical, traumatic, and emergent conditions.

The ideal candidate will have strong emergency nursing experience, excellent clinical judgment, and the ability to assess, prioritize, and respond quickly to changing patient needs in a fast-paced environment.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Perform rapid and comprehensive assessments of patients upon arrival and throughout their Emergency Department stay.
  • Prioritize patient care based on acuity, presenting symptoms, and clinical condition.
  • Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygen saturation, neurological status, and other relevant clinical indicators.
  • Recognize signs of patient deterioration and initiate appropriate emergency interventions.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and treatments safely according to orders and facility protocols.
  • Establish and maintain IV access and manage IV therapies as applicable.
  • Assist with emergency procedures, diagnostic testing, treatments, and bedside interventions.
  • Respond to cardiac arrests, rapid responses, trauma cases, and other emergency situations.
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures and treatments.
  • Review laboratory and diagnostic results and promptly communicate significant findings to physicians and the healthcare team.
  • Provide wound care, pain management, splinting assistance, and other interventions within the RN scope of practice.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, technicians, CNAs, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding treatments, medications, follow-up care, and discharge instructions.
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and transitions to appropriate levels of care.
  • Maintain infection prevention, patient safety, medication safety, and emergency preparedness standards.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Provide compassionate and patient-centered care during stressful and emergency situations.
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives as required.
Qualifications
  • Current and active RN license eligible for practice in California.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Room or Emergency Department nursing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of emergency nursing principles and practices.
  • Ability to rapidly assess and prioritize patients based on acuity.
  • Experience with IV therapy, medication administration, and emergency interventions.
  • Strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to recognize and respond quickly to changes in patient condition.
  • Comfortable caring for trauma, cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and other emergent conditions.
  • Excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
  • Willingness to work Night Shift on a 3×12 schedule.
  • Required certifications should meet applicable facility requirements.
