Senior Estimator
The Senior Estimator participates in all aspects of the bid/estimating process from review of plans and specifications to soliciting and negotiating prices from contractors and suppliers through completion of bid/estimating effort, including closeout.
Job Responsibilities- Estimating and Bid Preparation
- Lead the preparation of accurate and detailed cost estimates for large‑scale electrical projects, including commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors.
- Review project drawings, specifications, and other documents to understand scope, requirements, and risks.
- Utilize advanced estimating software and tools to perform complex calculations and generate comprehensive bid packages.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Management
- Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and manage relationships.
- Evaluate proposals and negotiate pricing and terms to ensure cost‑effective solutions while maintaining quality standards.
- Develop and maintain a network of reliable subcontractors and suppliers.
- Project Planning and Strategy
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients during pre‑construction meetings and planning sessions.
- Provide input on value engineering, cost‑saving measures, and alternative materials or methods to enhance project profitability.
- Assist in developing project schedules, milestones, and procurement strategies.
- Risk Assessment and Compliance
- Identify potential risks and opportunities in project estimates and bids, and develop mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, codes, regulations, and safety requirements in estimates and bids.
- Leadership and Mentoring
- Mentor and supervise junior estimators, providing guidance, training, and support in estimating techniques and best practices.
- Lead or participate in cross‑functional teams to enhance departmental processes and capabilities.
- Reporting and Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and related documentation, ensuring completeness and accessibility for project teams and management.
- Prepare and present reports, summaries, and analyses of estimates and bid results to senior management.
- Minimum Experience:
10+ years in estimating for electrical construction projects. - Bachelor’s degree in construction management, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Advanced proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Accubid, McCormick) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent organizational, negotiation, problem‑solving, presentation, and leadership skills.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, materials, methods, and industry trends.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills with a strong customer focus.
- Self‑driven, able to work independently or as part of a team in a high‑pace and stressful environment.
- Leadership qualities, including the ability to lead projects and mentor team members.
Salary Range: $170,000 – $200,000 per year.
Work EnvironmentGeneral work environment involves sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, and occasional lifting up to 15 lbs. Work is conducted primarily indoors with varying environmental conditions such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. The noise level is usually low. The company complies with ADA and applicable state law.
