Why does the job exist?
The Senior Accountant will:
- Audit and enter all payment voucher submissions related to Senate Bill 3 for Behavioral Health Services Division (BHSD) as well as all other divisions within Health Care Authority (HCA);
- Act as the first level preparer of financial documents for the Accounts Payable Bureau and ensure records are accurate and complaint with Federal and State laws, regulations and standards.
The Senior Accountant is responsible for:
- Entering vendor payment vouchers, journal entries and journal vouchers in SHARE Financial system for Behavioral Health Services Division (BHSD) and all other divisions within Health Care Authority (HCA);
- Auditing and processing in-state and out-of-state travel reimbursements for all HCA division staff;
- Ensuring that the monitoring, reconciling, and processing of financial information for accounts payable transactions are in compliance with Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) Model of Accounting Practices (MAP), and HCA policies and procedures;
- Carrying out additional duties as assigned to support the operational and financial needs of HCA.

- Other State Agencies;
- Third-party vendors.
The Ideal Candidate has experience in;
- Accounts Payable;
- Journal Entries;
- Proficiently utilizing Excel;
- Providing excellent customer service and communication skills.
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, or Business Administration and two (2) years directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, finance, and/or budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment RequirementsMust possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Working ConditionsWork is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of sitting. Some standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 25lbs.
Bargaining Unit PositionThis position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.
