This position works with a team of accountants in a fast paced, high-volume environment that has multiple priorities and deadlines. The position must become familiar with Department policies,
statutes and procedures that govern the fiduciary responsibilities over the distribution of tax revenues collected by the Department. The position maintains the highest degree of accountability
and financial reporting for tax revenues collected and distributed on behalf of the State of New Mexico.

The purpose of the position is to account and report motor vehicle fees and tax revenues collected and distributed by the New Mexico Taxation & Revenue Department. This is an accounting position responsible for recording transactions to the general ledger, preparing reconciliations and maintaining accuracy of the general ledger. This position will also be required to perform monthly closing tasks and test during the implementation of new legislation within the motor vehicle tax reporting software (Tapestry).

Customers are internal and external to the Department. The customers include oversight agencies, other state agencies, local governments, executive management, bureau chiefs, unit managers,
supervisors, and taxpayers.

This position is under the general supervision of the Motor Vehicle Distribution Financial Manager who is responsible for the review and approval of this Senior Accountant work product.

Preferred experience:

• Governmental accounting experience to include recording and reconciling journal entries.
• Knowledge and experience utilizing the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) Chart of Accounts and Model
• Accounting Practices (MAPs).
• Experience with human resources and financial management reporting system (SHARE).
• Maintaining a general ledger for multiple Funds
• Analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets utilizing advanced functions (Pivot tables, formulas, etc.)

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, or Business Administration and two (2) years directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, finance, and/or budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Must be current with all tax reporting/payment. Employment is subject to pre-employment criminal background check to include fingerprint checks and is conditional pending results.

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
