Under the direct supervision of the Elections Administration Supervisor, conducts a variety of election related administrative and physical tasks, both in the office and at/near polling sites.

  • Learns and maintains familiarity with the provisions of the New Mexico Election Code as it relates to the conduct of elections within the County.
  • Ensures compliance with the provisions of the New Mexico Election Code as it relates to the conduct of elections within the County.
  • Processes voter registrations, candidate filings, absentee ballots, campaign finance filings; programs and troubleshoots voting machines and systems; purges inactive voters; and prepares ballots, instructions to voters and candidates, election notices.
  • Reviews candidates’ filings and petitions; and conducts post-election canvassing.
  • Disseminates information to voters and other citizens regarding the election process in a timely manner.
  • Promptly responds to telephone calls, written communications, and requests for information.
  • Covers the front kiosk informational center and greets and assists visitors.
  • Performs administrative functions and tasks on behalf of the County Clerk’s Office, the Bureau of Elections, Recording, and Records and Research Divisions.
  • May serve as Notary Public with corresponding responsibilities.
  • Maintains, prepares, and programs tabulators for elections.
  • Sets up and takes down voting sites and signage during elections.
  • Assists Election Workers and Presiding Judges during elections.
  • Gathers and delivers supplies from the warehouse to voting locations; collects ballots from drop boxes.
  • Assists with additional tasks and projects as needed related to elections during election season.
  • Assists Records staff as needed.
Knowledge/ Skills
  • Knowledge of New Mexico Election Code and procedures. Ability to learn office procedures and equipment including basic office machinery and word processing.
  • Ability to perform administrative tasks accurately and rapidly.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently or with others, maintaining a professional attitude with the public, co‑workers, and County officials.
  • Ability to work in a highly stressful environment and to interact effectively with the public, all levels of employees, and County officials.
  • Skilled in operating various word‑processing, spreadsheet, database and other software programs in a Windows environment or ability to learn such skills.
  • Skilled in providing effective customer service.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of experience or training;
  • Some college or experience in general business administration preferred.
Working Conditions

Work is generally performed in an office setting, warehouse, and in the field, in varied weather conditions. Work schedule will include evening, weekend, and irregular hours during peak election and recording cycles. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands or arms;

climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Clarity of vision at long and short distance is required. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Occasional interaction with hostile, violent, or offensive individuals. Occasional exposure to high risk or potentially dangerous situations. May be subject to exposure to dust, fumes, airborne particles, or allergens;

work near hazardous or moving equipment or machinery; and be required to use protective clothing, equipment, devices, or materials. May be subject to CRTs, VDTs and UV rays.

Conditions of Employment

Selected candidate must submit to and pass a County paid pre‑employment physical and drug/alcohol screening. Additionally, selected candidate must submit to and pass a county paid criminal background screening. Selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Class D Driver’s License as incumbent shall be appointed to drive a County vehicle during the performance of his/her duties.
