Description:

The Law Enforcement Records Bureau gathers, analyzes, and disseminates criminal justice data used by New Mexico law enforcement, criminal justice, corrections, courts, and civil agencies to ensure public safety. The bureau maintains complete and accurate records and responds to the needs of the public, law enforcement and criminal justice agencies providing support and customer engagement through our many applications, programs, and services to achieve the mission objectives.

At the center of New Mexico's commitment to justice, the Law Enforcement Records Specialist safeguards vital records that protect communities and support law enforcement statewide. This position manages and organizes sensitive data, ensures precise record keeping, delivers daily mail, and fingerprints individuals for background checks that uphold compliance and security. Specialists draft and process Internal Purchase Requests, track purchase orders, and manage invoices to keep operations seamless.

They also respond to public inquiries, assist visitors, monitor access, and maintain supplies to support uninterrupted operations. By blending technical precision with administrative expertise, the Records Specialist strengthens transparency, ensures efficiency, and enables the Bureau to deliver trusted, high-quality service in the pursuit of public safety.

How does it get done?
  • Records Management and Data Integrity (30%) - Safeguard and maintain law enforcement records through precise data entry, filing, and quality control, ensuring compliance with New Mexico statutes and CJIS standards.
  • Outreach and Stakeholder Engagement (30%) - Lead outreach efforts, train stakeholders, collaborate with national partners on missing persons cases, and coordinate statewide events that advance public safety and law enforcement collaboration.
  • Administrative and Purchasing Support (25%) - Manage purchase orders, invoices, and vendor coordination to streamline bureau operations, ensuring timely procurement and accurate financial processing.
  • Customer Service and Public Interaction (15%) - Provide frontline service by processing public records requests, fingerprinting for background checks, and overseeing daily mail distribution to support both the public and internal staff.
Who are the customers?

General Public, Law Enforcement, Courts, Corrections, Criminal Justice Agencies, and Non-Criminal Justice agencies.

Ideal Candidate

Associates Degree in Business/Office Administration or related field and two (2) years of experience in office administration, customer service, records management technique and procedures, basic accounting, and/or business administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one year (1) year may substitute for the required experience.

  • 1. Experience exercising good judgment, problem solving, attention to detail, and making reliable decisions using critical thinking skills.
  • 2. Be a self-starter, self-motivated individual with experience working in a team environment.
  • 3. Natural public speaker who can lead training and orientation of clients throughout New Mexico.
  • 4. Sound communication skills - written and oral, and the ability to modify communication message to reflect audience.
  • 5. Organizational skills, shepherding projects through conceptual, development, executions and monitoring stages.

High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in office administration, customer service, records management technique and procedures, basic accounting, and/or business administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one year (1) year may substitute for the required experience.
