The Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PSE) Bureau mission is to manage the NMDOT's competitive bidding process for the construction of New Mexico's highway and bridge infrastructure. In addition, the PSE Bureau manages the NMDOT's Specifications and Standard Drawings, which establish the construction requirements for the project. The PSE Bureau is made up of three units:
Contracts Administration, Letting Administration and Standards/Specifications.
The purpose of the position is to perform quality assurance/control reviews of highway/bridge construction plans, ensuring pay items, quantities and funding established in the Engineer's Estimate are in conformance with the construction plans, specifications, standard drawings and the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program.
How does it get done?Key responsibilities include reviewing, providing comments, interpreting and ensuring compliance of contract documents.
Who are the customers?The customers are the contracting community (construction contractors and suppliers) who utilize the contract documents to submit bids, provide construction materials and construct highways and bridges.
Ideal Candidate- High School Diploma
- Experience in design and construction of highways/bridges
- Experience in writing technical reports
- Experience in using MS Office applications
High School Diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment RequirementsMust possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of a post‑offer pre‑employment physical. Reference check and Driver's License verification are required, and employment is conditional pending results.
Working ConditionsWork is performed in an office setting. Exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage. Communication with the general public and public agencies on a frequent basis. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Occasional statewide and out‑of‑state travel may be required.
Bargaining Unit PositionThis position is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
