Role Description The Art Consultant is a full-time, on-site role based in Santa Fe, NM, responsible for guiding clients through the process of viewing, selecting, and acquiring fine art. Day-to-day tasks include presenting artwork and artists’ stories to visitors, conducting personalized consultations, and recommending pieces that align with clients’ aesthetic preferences and spaces. The role involves managing sales transactions, maintaining accurate inventory and client records, and supporting gallery operations such as exhibition setup, display adjustments, and opening events.

The Art Consultant also conducts basic market and artist research to stay informed about trends, assists with gallery communications, and helps ensure the gallery remains organized, welcoming, and visually compelling for all guests.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong knowledge and appreciation of Art and Painting, with the ability to discuss artistic styles, mediums, and techniques confidently.
• Candidates should possess Art Consulting and client-facing skills, including the ability to understand client needs and provide tailored recommendations.
• Candidates should possess Sales skills, including experience with retail or gallery sales, closing transactions, and meeting sales objectives.
• Candidates should possess Research skills to stay current on artists, exhibitions, and market trends relevant to fine art and the gallery’s offerings.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse visitors in a professional and welcoming manner.
• Organizational and time-management abilities, including maintaining accurate records and supporting multiple clients and tasks simultaneously.
• Comfort working on-site in a gallery environment, including standing for extended periods and handling artwork carefully and safely.
• Previous experience in an art gallery, museum, interior design, or luxury retail setting is preferred; coursework or a degree in Art, Art History, or a related field is beneficial.
