Position: Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs

Position Overview

Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Full‑time position, immediate start.

Key Responsibilities

The Provost and EVP serves as Chief Academic Officer, providing executive oversight of all academic and student affairs functions to advance IAIA’s growth and innovation in Indigenous arts and cultures. Reporting directly to the President and serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet, the Provost will shape IAIA’s next chapter of academic excellence and student success.

Core duties include:

  • Leading and supervising the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Dean of Student Affairs, and the IAIA Research Center for Contemporary Native Arts (RCCNA).
  • Directing curriculum, faculty appointments and development, academic quality, and comprehensive student services.
  • Ensuring alignment with IAIA’s core values of Reciprocity, Culture of Care, Indigenous Excellence, and Service Leadership.
  • Overseeing the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) accreditation process and maintaining accreditation compliance.
  • Promoting student learning and success by monitoring course offerings, faculty‑student ratios, and program effectiveness.
  • Analyzing data to guide academic decision‑making and assess outcomes in support of institutional goals.
  • Providing strategic advice to the President on academic and student affairs, including budget development, policy, and compliance.
  • Managing budgets for Academic and Student Services Divisions and ensuring effective resource optimization.
  • Representing IAIA in external and internal constituencies, fostering partnerships with universities, government agencies, Tribal leadership, and community organizations.
  • Leading strategic and institutional planning to align academic and student services goals with the College’s mission and vision.
  • Serving as IAIA’s Deputy Title IX Coordinator and Principal Designated School Official for the Student and Exchange Visitor Program.
  • Overseeing procurement, grants, and other administrative functions related to academic and student services.
  • Providing administrative oversight of faculty and staff, and coordinating with Human Resources and the Office of the President as necessary.
  • Assisting with the development of the strategic plan, faculty handbook, student handbook, and college catalog.
Preferred Requirements

Incumbent must hold a master’s degree in a relevant field and have at least five years’ experience equivalent to senior-level academic leadership in higher education. A PhD in a relevant field and/or experience working at a Tribal College are strongly preferred, along with at least ten years’ equivalent senior leadership experience and a demonstrated background in arts and culture.

Working Conditions

This position is performed in a routine office environment with periodic domestic and international travel required.
