- Licensure: NMPED Level 3 EA License and AA in Early Childhood Development or commitment to obtain credits towards Early Childhood AA

Works alongside and assists certified school personnel in the performance of their duties. Works under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assists in providing the delivery of the Pre‑K instructional program. Establishes effective rapport with students and motivates them to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for Kindergarten education, in accordance with each child’s ability.
Establishes good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
- Minimum:
New Mexico Level III Education Paraprofessional licensure and AA degree in Early Childhood. Must be at least 18 years old. - Preferred:
Bilingual:
English/Spanish. Prior experience working with young children.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to implement lessons based on the teacher’s objectives and the needs and abilities of assigned students. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to quickly adapt to changing classroom situations and needs. Ability to multi‑task. Patience and a sense of humor. Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques for pre‑k classroom.
Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in a classroom setting. Knowledge of NM Early Learning Guidelines. Knowledge of ECERS–C/R rating scales. Ability to commit to continuous education and learning. Knowledge of word processing, database, and technology. Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, teachers, administrators & community members.
- Assists licensed personnel in the school environment working with small groups, preparation of instructional materials and physical requirements of the students.
- Cooperates in the development and implementation of developmentally appropriate Pre‑K instruction.
- Supports the implementation of developmentally appropriate lesson plans based on the New Mexico Early Learning Guidelines.
- Supports a classroom environment conductive to learning by managing appropriate student behavior.
- Supports the teachers in the observational assessments with Embedded Essential Indicators required for documentation of student’s progress.
- Assists with the completion of required portfolios with rubrics, teacher and family reports and reports results to State database on or before deadline.
- Provides opportunities for parent involvement and parenting education.
- Participates with Pre‑K staff and attends Bi‑monthly PLC meetings.
- Works closely with Pre‑K instructional coach.
- Other duties as assigned.
$25,000 + DOE
Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to)Applicable instructional materials including age appropriate toys and manipulatives. Appropriate hygiene supplies for staff and students. Pre‑K instructional coach.
Physical/Cognitive RequirementsOccasionally lifts and moves up to 25 pounds in supplies, which requires bending, stooping and lifting. Occasionally required to assist in the lifting or moving students of varying weights and sizes for hygiene or feeding purposes. Uses hands and arms to manipulate objects. May sit and stand for periods of time, including sitting on the floor. Directly responsible for safety and well‑being of small children.
EnvironmentalConditions
Typical classroom with furniture sized to the students’ age. Will be outside in various weather conditions for recess and noon duty. Moderate level of noise. Exposure to childhood illnesses. Supporting students with proper hygiene activities.

- Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.
