Overview
Teaches education courses and performs instructional duties in diverse learning environments. Adjunct faculty is expected to maintain current professional standards and practices, attend committee and department meetings, and support the mission of SFCC. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community.
Responsibilities- Provide the most effective instruction possible in one’s discipline to insure that the educational needs of students are met and that students achieve specified learning objectives.
- Teach assigned courses, whether on campus or off campus, day or evening, following the official syllabi and using approved textbooks and other learning materials.
- Meet all classes regularly and on time, as scheduled, and for their full duration.
- Evaluate student performance (attainment of learning objectives) and assign grades.
- Maintain all office hours and make arrangements for appointments with students at other times.
- Keep accurate records of student attendance, grades, etc.
- Make arrangements with the department chair or assistant dean for covering classes when scheduling an absence.
- Meet all deadlines in submitting grades or other required information on students.
Skills and Abilities
- Current and demonstrated knowledge in applicable course content.
- Knowledge of current teaching methodologies and practices, such as cooperative learning, service-learning, traditional and alternative assessment.
- Knowledge of diverse learning styles.
- Knowledge of tutorial units and related instructional laboratories.
- Knowledge of evaluation methodologies.
- Knowledge of record keeping.
- Knowledge of curriculum design and planning.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem‑solving skills.
- Time‑management skills.
- Computer‑use skills.
- Listening and critical‑thinking skills.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, special needs, and ethnic backgrounds of college students.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas.
- Ability to speak clearly.
- Ability to work with students with learning differences and disabilities.
- American Welding Society (AWS) certification.
- 2 years experience in the welding industry.
- Associate’s Degree.
- 2 years experience in teaching.
- Community college teaching experience.
