* * Position Summary
** Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) is a public two-year and four-year degree granting institution founded in 1909 by the New Mexico Constitution. NNMC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. NNMC operates from two campuses in Espanola and El Rito and serves an average of 1,500 students per semester.
SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing valuable contributions and leadership in the Department of Education through excellence in teaching, leadership, service, research, mentoring, and advising. Primary duties include overseeing and managing the department of Education, teaching lower and upper division courses in the program, supervising all faculty members in the department, maintain CAEP (NCATE) accreditation. Other duties include academic advising of students, working with advisory committees, developing relationships and collaboration with high school and Higher Education, monitoring student assessment, keeping updated inventories, developing curricula for effective teaching, participating in college committees and serving the community through outreach activities and other duties assigned by supervisor.
This position may require overseeing the teaching of courses in evenings and/or on weekends and requires experience in the use of appropriate technology for performance of the listed responsibilities. This position currently reports to the Provost.
** Duties & Responsibilities
*** Assume faculty and chair duties during the approved academic year and during College functions as required.
* Supervise faculty and adjunct faculty.
* Conduct assigned classes in accordance with the stated philosophy and objectives of the College and in accordance with the approved course outlines/syllabi.
* Develop curricula for effective learning and teaching.
* Keep an updated inventory of equipment under his/her jurisdiction and report any damaged, missing or obsolete items, which need attention or replacements.
* Maintain up-to-date and approved course outlines/syllabi in every course assigned and keep files on course materials/curriculum as per department requirements.
* Work with a functional advisory committee in respective curricular area.
* Acts as a liaison with national and state accreditation agencies in collaboration with the College of Education faculty and staff.
* Conduct academic advising for students interested in the department.
* Attend and support activities of the College such as scheduled events, faculty and departmental meetings, assigned committee meetings, and other academic functions such as workshops, seminars, orientations, planning sessions, and convocations which require faculty participation.
* Participate in convocation, commencement, assessment day exercises.
* Actively participates to secure funding for the department through grant submission, donations, involvement in institutional advancement efforts, and public/private partnerships.
* Collaborate with other academic departments in joint projects and grants
* Keep equipment inventory.
* Approve purchases for the department.
* Participate in the hiring process of new faculty and in the event a faculty is not hired, manage assignment of adjuncts as deemed necessary
* Communicate, collaborate, and establish articulation as required with all outside entities such as other educational institutions and possible organizations and employers
* Evaluate and establish opportunities with possible employers for graduates to secure employment
* Organize and participate in both internal and external events to promote department programs to the community
* Engaged in innovative and creative practices to increase enrollment
* Keep credentials and certifications as required, current and on file in the Human Resources Office.
* Become familiar with College policies and procedures and abide by them.
* Design and implement student learning outcomes assessment for each course.
* Develop bibliography of books and media to be purchased by College library.
* Work with the Director of Assessment regarding accreditation issues.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

* KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
*** Knowledge of online course delivery.
* Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
* Good computer software skills and experience with a variety of teaching resources, media and technologies including computer-aided instruction.
* Excellent organizational skills and the ability to attend to details and meet deadlines.
* Demonstrated problem solving skills and self-starting skills.
