The Supervisor of Education and Engagement manages development and implementation of a high quality educational program for the New Mexico History Museum (NMHM), oversees the Native American Artisans Program (Portal Program), and facilitates public engagement for all Museum programs. This position develops and coordinates all educational activities, programs, tours, and works with other Museum functions in accordance with the NMHM strategic plan.

Working in conjunction with two (2) other educators, this supervisory position is responsible for planning and coordination of all the Museum's educational activities including on-site visits, on-line resources, and remote instruction. The program supports state learning standards for social studies with an emphasis on history, and is designed to benefit students from pre‑K to the 12th grade throughout New Mexico. Close coordination with teachers and expertise in object‑based, experiential, and project‑based learning are central to the Museum's approach to education.

The educational team is also responsible for the Museum's volunteer program, liaison with the Friends of History, docent training and scheduling, and development of supplemental materials and interactives to complement permanent and changing exhibitions.

In addition to managing this program, the Supervisor is expected to actively participate in instruction and/or development of educational materials, manage accounts associated with assigned areas of responsibility, and support fundraising efforts led by the Museum's Executive Director. The position also serves as the in‑house coordinator for the Museum's public engagement initiatives and supervises the Portal Coordinator who is responsible for administration and support of the Museum's Native American artisans' program.

Anyone interested in learning about New Mexico could benefit from the work done by the Supervisor of Education and Engagement. More specifically, the position serves teachers and students from around the state, as well as communities with whom the Museum might formally engage.

• A university degree in education, history, cultural resource management, anthropology, or related studies.
• Experience with application of informal learning and educational concepts such as object‑based, experiential, and project‑based learning within a museum environment or similar setting.
• Experience developing curriculum for informal and formal learning.
• Using on‑line platforms or applications, such as Canvas, Jamboard, and Zoom, and remote techniques such as activity kits and traveling trunks to support classroom learning.
• Experience organizing or facilitating a public engagement program, managing a volunteer program, and training docents.
• Experience managing projects, administering financial accounts, and supervising two or more employees.

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional level experience operating within parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Employment is subject to a pre‑employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

The work is primarily done in an office or classroom setting and requires extensive use of a personal computer, printer/scanner, and telephone. Periods of sitting are combined with situations requiring standing, bending, crouching, and light lifting. There may be limited contact with potentially hazardous office chemicals and equipment. Interaction through sight, speaking and hearing is normal. Weekend work and irregular hours for outreach and programs is a requirement of the position.

This position is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
