Why does the job exist?

This position will serve as an Education Administration Specialist for the Public Education Department in the Student, School, and Family Support Bureau (SSFS). This position is responsible for providing timely and relevant customer service, technical assistance, guidance and support to districts, state charter schools, and applicable state agencies across the state, implementing Title V Part B Subpart 2, Title I programs and other programs overseen by the SSFS Bureau.

Specifically, the Education Administration Specialist provides instructional leadership, specific and meaningful feedback, and informational resources to districts and schools. Additionally, the Education Administration Specialist assists with application processes, data analysis, program evaluation and monitoring via desktop and on-site visits which requires travel across the state. The SSFS Bureau is committed to supporting districts and schools as they develop, implement and sustain effective Title I as well as Title V programs which ensure students in New Mexico are engaged in a culturally and linguistically responsive educational system that meets the social, emotional, and academic needs of all students.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide appropriate support, technical assistance, customer service, to districts, state charter schools, and state agencies.
  • Prepares and disseminates informational resources to districts, state charter schools, and state agencies.
  • Data analysis, program evaluation, and monitoring via desktop and on-site visits, which requires travel across the state.
  • Become knowledgeable in all applicable state and federal law, regulations, and guidance in order to support districts and state. charter schools and state agencies in improving educational outcomes for applicable student groups.
Who are the customers?

Secretary of Public Education, Deputy Cabinet Secretaries, state agencies, district administrators of federal programs, district business managers, school administrators, teachers, students and families, and SSFS bureau leadership.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in administering and evaluating federal programs, designing and delivering professional development for adult learners, classroom teaching or school social work experience, and a strong work ethic.

Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration, or Business Administration and four (4) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.

Bargaining Unit Position

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.
