Project Environmental Engineer/Scientist

About the Role

The Project Environmental Engineer/Scientist provides direct support, under the direction of the Senior Project Manager, to environmental projects. The position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining management strategies, procedures, and plans to ensure compliance with state, federal, and local regulations. This role requires field work, basic calculations & analysis, permit application preparation, regulatory guidance document preparation, project management, and support of other environmental documentation.

Work will be remote; the ideal candidate will be within a reasonable driving distance of the Montrose Albuquerque, New Mexico office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Title V, NNSR, PSD Air Quality Permitting, Minor Source Permitting, Air Quality Impact Analysis, Emission Inventory Reporting (EIR), Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plans, CERCLA/RCRA Compliance.
  • Work independently and in a team setting.
  • Collaborate with peers, seniors, and clients to build relationships.
  • Attend team and client meetings, sharing ideas.
  • Conduct field work at client sites to collect data.
  • Assist with research and data collection as requested by project managers.
  • Prepare environmental guidance documents, permit applications, compliance plans, and other resources for clients.
  • Track project budget and hours, managing time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Provide project status reports to customers and ensure customer needs are met.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory standards in the environmental technical areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding Montrose and its clients.
  • Practice safe work measures, following company safety rules and OSHA regulations, and complete required safety training.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs and support team efforts.
  • Stay current on industry trends through formal training and professional publications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (civil, environmental, or chemical) from an accredited four‑year college or university.
  • 3 or more years of environmental compliance experience with industrial, municipal, and/or federal clientele.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of computer‐aided software (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, etc.).
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions for presentation to supervisors.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical capability to canvass large project areas by foot on varied terrain and in inclement weather.
  • Willingness to travel locally as needed.
