Posting Details

District Five is one of six districts of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The boundaries of District Five include the following counties:
Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos, and San Juan. Employees in the District are responsible for providing the Maintenance, Construction, Engineering Support, and Business support measures of the Department to ensure the safety of the public as well as efficient highways.

This job is located in the Santa Fe Project Office.

As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date.
This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within Two (2) weeks of Closing Date.

Why does the job exist?

This position serves as a lead inspector on roadway, bridge, and maintenance construction projects, providing instruction and direction to other inspectors in the inspection, testing, and documentation of construction projects. This position will also be expected to assist the Project Manager and the Engineering Technician Supervisor as needed. This position is subject to be assigned to other project offices throughout the District.

How does it get done?

Incumbent will perform independent field inspections, conduct field materials sampling and testing, and the inspection of roadways, structures, and miscellaneous items to provide a safe, quality, and cost effective transportation system. This position will also document work activities and process project documents as well as verify documentation for completeness to ensure all contractual guidelines and/or special provisions are met. This position will be expected to be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:

- Field and Lab testing for collection of samples for roadway materials according to AASHTO, ASTM, & TTCP procedures.
- Quality Control (QC) and IA testing.
- Road construction projects inspections & operations.
- Documentation of materials ,tracking quantities,reporting and paying for contract items, accuracy of computations
- AP Construction experience , Share , experience with Certs of Compliance, executing Change Orders, Contracts ,plan
reading, NMDOT Bridge and Construction Specifications

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical. Reference check and Driver's License verification are required and employment is conditional pending results. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results. Will be required to obtain Technician Training Certification Program (TTCP) certificates within one year of hire to include but not limited to Nuclear Densometer, Radiation Safety Officer Training, Concrete Field and Lab Testing, Aggregate, Soils, Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), Traffic Control and SWPPP.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting. Exposure to:
Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive personal computer and phone usage. Communication with the general public and public agencies on a frequent basis. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Occasional statewide and out of state travel maybe required.
