Posting Details
District Five is one of six districts of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The boundaries of District Five include the following counties:
Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos, and San Juan. Employees in the District are responsible for providing the Maintenance, Construction, Engineering Support, and Business support measures of the Department to ensure the safety of the public as well as efficient highways.
This position is in Santa Fe and will be within the District Five Complex /Construction Audit Section.
As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date.
This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.

Why does the job exist?
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations for documentation and reporting on highway and bridge construction projects throughout the District Five area. The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is required to perform routine audits of all reports and documents related to construction activities in order to ensure there is compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations as well as the NMDOT Standard Specification for Highway and Bridge Construction.
These audits are crucial for maintaining State and Federal compliance standards in order to ensure the department continues to receive funding obligated to these projects.
How does it get done?
Under close supervision the incumbent will perform basic to moderate audit tasks involving analysis of construction documentation and adherence to contract specifications. Tasks will include routine review of construction plans and field source books; issuing monthly progress payments to contractors using the SHARE financial module; and review and processing of subcontracts and change orders. This position will assist with providing data for preparation of reports for use by managerial employees;
input of data into existing data bases; tracking projecting expenditures and funding requirements; and assisting and coordinating with district construction personnel as well as local, state, and federal agencies as required.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- High level of mathematical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task and keep track of time sensitive items across multiple projects
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- The ability to read and interpret construction plans/schematics
- Experience with contract review and interpretation
- Knowledge of AP Construction Software
- Experience with SHARE Financials
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Business reference check and driver's license verification are required, and employment is conditional pending results. May require Technician Training Certification Program (TTCP) certificates within one year of hire to include but not limited to;
Nuclear Densometer, Concrete Field and Lab Testing, Aggregate, Soils, Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), Traffic Control and SWPPP.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow. May include exposure to:
Sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, and hazardous chemicals. High speed/high volume traffic and loud noises, confined spaces;
Falls and bruises, considerable physical strain;
Standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances;
Hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may also be performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers and printers.
May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call outs for emergencies. Willingness to accept change of geographical assignments. Interaction with the public by phone and in person. Frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays to include weekends, holidays, and overtime are required.
