What Your Job Will Be LikeWe are seeking a motivated, and self-starting R&D S&E Mechanical Engineer to join the dynamic advanced manufacturing group (7520) as a process engineer supporting agile product realization. You will work with a team of experienced personnel to take on challenging production, and development assignments that serve the evolving needs across the NSE as well as SPP programs. Our team brings together a diverse set of skills and backgrounds to enable rapid production missions in close collaboration with our customers and partners.
You will be responsible for overseeing process development, qualification, and full-scale production of concurrent product lines in a high-paced and dynamic work environment. Work scope will require close collaboration with design, systems, testing, quality, acceptance, and procurement organizations.
- Develop, qualify, maintain, and oversee new production processes that meet mark quality requirements while meeting all safety, quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
- Oversee testing operations for packaged electronics devices, and calibration of measurement equipment.
- Perform structured problem solving to address urgent process, or product issues.
- Collect and analyze data to monitor key production metrics.
- Identify opportunities to reduce yield loss, improve throughput, and lower product cycle times.
- Review design definition to assess production feasibility and provide manufacturability improvements.
- Consult with organizations across Sandia to provide production expertise to teams supporting high impact missions.
- Closely integrate with SNL quality and surety, component design, systems, NNSA, NSE Partners, SPP partners and Vendors.
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development. An active DOE Q clearance, or equivalent is required to start.
Qualifications We Desire- Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
- Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization in the NNSA complex.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with electrical testing, calibration, and/or programming.
- Systems oriented person able to manage production processes and identify and mitigate associated risks.
- Ability to analyze and optimize manufacturing processes to balance quality, schedule and cost.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor process health by collecting data, performing analysis and tracking using standard metrics.
- Excellent time management skills and organization needed to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Understanding of fundamentals of radio frequency (RF) engineering.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment with knowledge of industry standard Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systems and related business practices.
- Evidence of high academic achievement.
Salary Range: $102,400 - $199,700. The actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential. Security ClearancePosition requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants must be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
