Description:
PERA is a 401(a) qualified governmental plan that is governed by the New Mexico Public Employees Retirement Act and offers 31 different coverage plans, two tiers of membership and is comprised of 335 participating public employers. PERA's plans currently cover state, municipal and county employees, police, firefighters, judges, magistrates, legislators, and volunteer firefighters.
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
This position is responsible for ensuring the appropriate steps are completed for a PERA member to complete the retirement process.
How does it get done?- Audits service credit, pension applications and employers certifications
- Calculate purchase costs for withdrawn service, air time, military service and prior service credit
- Calculate pension benefits
- Counsels members on retirement options and benefits
- PERA active and inactive members
- PERA retirees
- PERA affiliated agencies
- PERA affiliated employers
- Experience providing exceptional customer service
- Ability to multi-task to meet strict deadlines in a high-volume office environment
- Ability to deal with difficult situations
High School Diploma or Equivalency and three (3) years of direct experience in bookkeeping, retirement processing, benefits administration, and/or auditing. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment RequirementsMust possess a driver's license. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Working ConditionsWork is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 25lbs.
