Overview
POSITION SUMMARY: Assesses, diagnoses and treats disorders of speech and language, including articulation, fluency, voice, expressive communication in oral, written, graphic and manual modalities; swallowing and related functions; cognitive aspects of communication; social aspects of communication; and other functional disabilities associated with cognitive impairment. Responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the plan of care for the person served. Performs and directs administration of speech therapy modalities and collaborates with the person served, their family, and the interdisciplinary team.
QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: M.S. or M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology, Communicative Disorders or equivalent certified program.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Current ASHA and New Mexico Speech-Language Pathology or current Clinical Fellowship Licensure required. BLS issued through American Heart Association certification required.
SKILLS: Demonstrates accountability and skills in assessment/evaluation, decision making and time management. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years post CFY experience (preferred) or current Clinical Fellowship License. At least one year of previous clinical experience with neurologically impaired adults and dysphagia, including radiologic assessment (preferred).

ENVIRONMENT: Works in a clean, well-lighted, ventilated, smoke-free environment. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, combative patients and hazardous chemicals. Minimal X-ray exposure. Subject to stressful professional relationships.
Physical RequirementsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Good physical condition. Prolonged standing and walking; lifts, positions, and transfers patients and moves occupied equipment. Lifts supplies or equipment up to 50 lbs. Potential strains from lifting heavy patients and equipment.
