The New Mexico Department of Health, Public Health Division, is responsible for statewide coordination and implementation of programming and clinical services aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of all individuals residing in New Mexico. The Office of Food Systems is a new team within the Public Health Division, Office of the Director.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have greater than 7 years of progressive experience in food policy or food programming initiatives. The ideal candidate will have significant experience working with community partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders to advance programs related to food quality, access, or other priorities of the Food Initiative. The ideal candidate has experience supporting the conceptualization, development, and implementation of programs.

While not required, it is desirable for the candidate to have a combination of experience in grant writing, drafting or review of legislation, and advocating/advancing policy proprieties.

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Why

does the job exist?

The New Mexico Department of Health, Public Health Division, is establishing an Office of Food Systems which will lead and advance New Mexico's statewide Food Initiative by identifying priorities, driving implementation, and coordinating cross-agency strategies to strengthen the state's food system. The Office will oversee the development, execution, and monitoring of food-related programs, convene state agencies and partners to streamline services, and ensure alignment with statewide food policy priorities.

This senior manager position will provide high-level support to the Director.

How does it get done?

Under the direction of the Director, the senior manager will convene and facilitate cross-agency working groups, committees, and task forces to streamline food programs. The senior program manager will be required to build strong communication channels to support collective problem-solving and unified statewide food strategies.

The senior program manager will oversee the implementation and integration of food programs across state agencies and partners, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and effectiveness. The individual should monitor agency and partner program performance, progress milestones, and budget utilization for food-related investments.

The senior program manager will provide guidance to state agencies, tribal partners, and local entities on best practices for food program implementation, procurement, and coordination. The individual will also support partners in strengthening their capacity to deliver nutrition assistance, food distribution, and local food access programs.

Improved food policy lowers long-term healthcare costs, improves quality of life, and strengthens food systems to benefit New Mexico's farmers, ranchers, and food producers. A strong food system improves resiliency and ensures food access and policy improves multi-sectoral outcomes across the state.

Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work in an office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminal (VTD) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Statewide travel, with the possibility of out-of-state travel and/or overnight travel, as required. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs (bending, stooping and reaching).
