The Attorney General and the Department of Justice, collectively referred to as the New Mexico Department of Justice (NMDOJ), represent and defend the legal interests and sovereignty of the people of the State of New Mexico. The NMDOJ exercises the responsibilities delegated by the New Mexico Constitution, statutes enacted by the New Mexico Legislature, and the common law. The Attorney General has primary authority for enforcement of consumer protection and antitrust laws, prosecution of criminal appeals and some complex white-collar crimes, training and certification of peace officers, and most natural resource and environmental matters.
Additionally, the New Mexico Department of Justice works concurrently with New Mexico's 13 district attorneys and other local, state and federal law enforcement authorities to carry out its criminal justice responsibilities and activities.

As a valued New Mexico Department of Justice employee, you will receive a hiring bonus of forty (40) hours of leave at your start date to be used at any time. This is in addition to standard leave accrual for employees.
Why does the job exist?
The financial control division handles all financial transactions of the agency including travel, purchasing, procurement, grants management, settlement management, reporting and the annual audit. This position provides essential fiscal support to the New Mexico Department of Justice. The role is responsible for monitoring and accounting for agency travel and issuance of purchase orders to ensure accurate financial tracking. Additionally, the position will assist and provide backup support to other financial specialists in the areas of Accounts Payable.
The incumbent will work collaboratively with other divisions and department staff to ensure the efficient processing of purchase orders and payments, supporting the agency's overall financial integrity and operational efficiency.
How does it get done?
* Procurement Card (P-Card) holder - complete approved travel related purchases with p-card.
* Reconcile P-card transactions monthly basis.
* Process travel requests and reimbursements.
* Prepare payment vouchers.
* Maintain travel log.
* Pick up warrants/Automated Clearing House (ACH) reports daily at the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) and distribute accordingly.
* Initiate purchase order (PO's) and change order requests in accordance with appropriate regulations, references and documentation. Monitor transactions. Close zero balance PO's.
* Update PO log.
* W-9 Point of contact. Enter and submit via Supplier Management Agency Request System (SMARS) and monitor status.
* Prepare and deposit physical checks.
Who are the customers?
This position serves the staff of the New Mexico Attorney General's Office, the Department of Finance and Administration, and vendors interacting with the agency.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
* Purchasing
* Accounts payable
* Itemized Schedule of Travel Expenses (ISTEs)
* Reconciliations
* Statewide Human Resources Accounting Reporting System (SHARE)/People Soft Financials or other financial program
* Understanding of Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) and agency policies
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, or Business Administration and two (2) years directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, finance, and/or budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Pre-employment background check is required and conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/video display terminals (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Limited in-state travel may be required on occasion.
