Description:
The New Mexico Higher Education Department (NMHED) works to encourage all New Mexicans to pursue a college education by making it more accessible and affordable. The department holds a statewide vision for higher education in which New Mexicans have the ability to achieve the highest level of education they desire, are ensured a seamless educational experience from pre-school through college, can afford to attend one of New Mexico's fine institutions and will succeed once enrolled, and will be prepared to participate in New Mexico's high wage workforce.

Why does the job exist?The purpose of this position is to provide support to end-users and contribute to the strategic growth and success of the Higher Education Department (HED). This position will work closely with the IT Systems Administrator to ensure that all user-related services remain available and secure.
How does it get done?Duties for this position include:
- Providing hands-on and remote technical assistance to end-users by troubleshooting hardware, software and network issues
- Installation, configuration and updating hardware components and software applications
- Conducting routine maintenance tasks, updates and patches to ensure systems are secure and up to date
- Ensure that systems comply with security protocols and policies, implementing security measures and educating end-users about best practices
HED leadership, staff and Higher Education Institutions.
Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will have:
- Professional IT experience
- High level technical support
- Ability to multitask
- Strong and effective communication skills
Associate Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in end user support, systems administration, network administration, or any related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
EmploymentRequirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Working ConditionsWork is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT); requires sitting in front of VDT for extended periods of time; work in cramped spaces and positions; close exposure to CRT's, VDT's and UV rays. Stress associated with working in a high ticket volume environment, being able to deal with the constant traffic of user problems and system breakdowns.
Requires the ability to reach above the head; lift up to 50 pounds. Requires the use of manual dexterity while operating a computer keyboard.
