The First Judicial District Court is seeking one full‑time, At‑Will Certified Court Monitor to provide courtroom support and ensure accurate, audible audio/digital recordings of judicial proceedings. The role requires proper use of spelling, grammar, and punctuation while monitoring multiple hearings and ensuring the integrity of recordings.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and record judicial proceedings, including hearings for judges, attorneys, commissioners, and litigants, ensuring accurate audit trails for appellate review.
  • Operate and set up audio or digital recording equipment, verifying functionality and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Generate time‑stamped logs that outline pertinent events and verify that recordings are audible.
  • Gather, deliver, and file receipts, logs, and exhibits, following accurate record‑keeping procedures.
  • Accept, maintain, and file court exhibits, including hazardous or dangerous items, while protecting confidentiality and evidence integrity.
  • Maintain technical logs and update recording and visual‑evidence systems.
  • Retain all case material, label logs, and safeguards evidence for public, sequestered, or sealed status.
  • Act as liaison between court personnel, attorneys, and litigants to advance proceedings.
  • Review court files, prepare hearings, and collect relevant documents from judges and clerks.
  • Conduct research using computer retrieval systems.
  • Provide training and certifications/re‑certifications for fellow monitors and staff.
  • Travel to other locations to record hearings.
  • Draft orders, legal correspondence, and documents for judges and schedule hearings.
  • Serve as Trial Court Administrative Assistant and process appeals for the Court of Appeals.
  • Train on courtroom etiquette, brief keys, exhibit entry, voir dire, and jury trial processes.
  • Perform duties of a Bailiff, including announcing judges and maintaining decorum.
  • Prepare recordings/burn CDs for out‑of‑county and out‑of‑district proceedings and mail them to appropriate courts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of experience in court case processing, legal secretarial work, or related administrative roles.
  • Knowledge of diverse hearing types (jury trials, domestic relations, child support, mental health court, etc.).
  • Proficiency with digital recording, word processing, and courtroom software.
  • Understanding of legal abbreviations and terminology.
  • Ability to handle hazardous exhibits and maintain evidence integrity.
  • Valid driver’s license; travel may be required.
  • Certification as a Court Monitor within six (6) months of hire.
