Facilities Maintenance Specialist

Reporting to the Director of Facilities Services, the Facilities Maintenance Specialist performs routine building maintenance and supports safe, clean, functional clinical and administrative environments across Southwest Care Center locations. The position completes preventive maintenance, inspections, minor repairs, room and furniture setup, supply restocking, cleanup, and timely response to facility needs. The Facilities Maintenance Specialist identifies and reports unsafe conditions, supports facility renovations and space changes, coordinates assigned outside maintenance services, and handles facility waste streams in accordance with safety, environmental, and organizational requirements.

The role works independently, uses sound judgment, and may work flexible hours when operational needs require.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Inspect buildings, structures, fixtures, equipment, and facility systems to identify malfunctions, needed repairs, unsafe conditions, defective equipment, and other hazards; promptly report conditions that require specialized service or leadership attention.
  • Maintain preventive maintenance and inspection schedules to support uninterrupted operations and safe conditions for patients, team members, and visitors.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repair work involving electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry, painting, locks, fixtures, furniture, and equipment within the employee's demonstrated training, authorization, and legally permitted scope. Work requiring a licensed tradesperson, permit, specialized certification, or qualified electrical worker must be referred to an appropriately licensed or authorized provider.
  • Maintain facility maintenance materials, tools, equipment, and supplies at appropriate levels and within budgetary expectations; provide maintenance input and recommendations to the Director of Facilities Services.
  • Restock facility supplies and perform routine non-biohazardous cleanups. Respond to spills involving blood, other potentially infectious materials, chemicals, or other hazardous materials only when trained, authorized, and equipped under applicable SCC safety programs.
  • Organize and prepare meeting rooms, lounges, and other shared spaces as needed.
  • Install, mount, move, and assemble modular office components and furnishings, including furniture, wall panels, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, and file cabinets, using appropriate tools and safe work practices.
  • Coordinate assigned third-party maintenance services and contracts, including HVAC, landscaping, and other facility vendors, and maintain effective working relationships with outside service providers.
  • Travel between SCC locations and vendor or project sites using an SCC-authorized vehicle or other approved transportation, as assigned.
  • Assist with the coordination and oversight of facility renovations, additions, relocations, and space modifications as assigned.
  • Handle municipal waste, recyclable materials, hazardous materials, and regulated medical waste only in accordance with SCC's Exposure Control Plan, Hazard Communication Program, waste-management procedures, required training, and assigned personal protective equipment. This position may have occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.
  • Attend required building code, life-safety, OSHA, environmental, and other facility compliance training and apply current requirements to assigned work.
  • Use tools, equipment, chemicals, ladders, and personal protective equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions, safety practices, and SCC policies, including applicable hazard communication, electrical-safety, ladder-safety, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Support timely correction or escalation of facility conditions that could affect safety, access, infection prevention, or continuity of services.
  • Work flexible hours, including occasional evenings, weekends, emergency call-back, or after-hours work, when required. As a non-exempt employee, accurately record all hours worked, including required after-hours work and compensable travel between SCC locations; all hours worked will be compensated in accordance with applicable law.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, consistent with the scope and level of the position.
