Role Description

The Senior Nurse Surveyor is a full‑time, on‑site role based in the Albuquerque–Santa Fe Metropolitan Area. This role conducts surveys and inspections of nursing education programs and healthcare facilities to ensure compliance with the Nursing Practice Act, Board rules, and applicable standards. The Senior Nurse Surveyor reviews documentation, evaluates clinical practices, interviews staff and stakeholders, and prepares detailed reports with findings and recommendations.

Day‑to‑day responsibilities include collaborating with other regulatory and healthcare entities, providing consultation and guidance to nursing programs and licensees, and participating in investigations related to practice or program quality. The role also contributes to policy development, assists in updating survey tools and procedures, and supports educational outreach to promote best practices in nursing care and program administration.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise in nursing practice and clinical assessment, with the ability to evaluate quality of care and patient safety.
  • Experience in regulatory compliance, auditing, or survey work within healthcare or nursing education settings.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and report‑writing skills to interpret data, identify trends, and document findings clearly.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interviewing staff, presenting survey results, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple site visits and projects, and maintain organized, accurate records.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and electronic documentation systems; ability to learn regulatory or survey‑specific platforms.
  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license, preferably in New Mexico, with substantial clinical experience; prior leadership or supervisory experience is highly beneficial.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required; a master’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Nursing Practice Act, Board regulations, and applicable federal and state healthcare laws.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the Albuquerque–Santa Fe Metropolitan Area and across New Mexico as needed for surveys and inspections.
