Why does the job exist?

The Senior Compliance Officer serves as the central authority for the oversight, administration, and coordination of all Department safety, security, and emergency preparedness programs. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring statewide safety and security initiatives, including fire safety, emergency preparedness, OSHA compliance, building security, and loss prevention programs. The Senior Compliance Officer ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including requirements established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the State Fire Marshall
¿ s office, local fire marshall offices and the General Services Department.

The Senior Compliance Officer develops and provides oversight to the Department
¿ s statewide safety program, conducts regular safety trainings, and collaborates with field offices to ensure consistent compliance across all locations.

How does it get done?

This position provides oversight of fire marshall inspections, coordinates fire alarm testing and fire drills with field offices, conduct site visits, and monitors the implementation of corrective action plans. The Senior Compliance Officer maintains the Department
¿ s central repository for safety records, inspection reports, and compliance documentation;
Prepares after action reports in coordination with the State Fire Marshall's Office;
Ensures regular fire and evacuation drills are conducted;
And provides written responses to compliance concerns, complaints, inspection findings, and citations issued by fire marshall authorities.

The Senior Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring Department compliance with OSHA regulations by developing and implementing workplace safety policies and procedures, conducting statewide safety inspections and site assessments, and interpreting applicable regulatory requirements. This position evaluates inspection findings, communicates compliance expectations, and prepares written responses to OSHA related issues, complaints, and citations. The Senior Compliance Officer coordinates with landlords and lessors to address facility safety concerns, recommends corrective actions, and provide safety guidance and training to Department staff.

Working in partnership with the CYFD policy unit, the Senior Compliance Officer develops and maintains agency policies and procedures related to safety, security, and emergency preparedness. This position serves as the Department
¿ s oversight and subject matter expert for all safety and emergency prepared matters and is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, execution and continuous improvement of the Department
¿ s statewide safety and security program. The Senior Compliance Officer conducts routine facility inspections, risk assessments, and hazard evaluations to identify and mitigate potential safety and security risks while documenting findings and monitoring corrective action actions.

The Senior Compliance Officer collaborates with the CYFD professional development and training academy to develop, coordinate, and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all employees.
