Posting Details

District Five is one of six districts of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The boundaries of District Five include the following counties:
Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos, and San Juan. Employees in the District are responsible for providing the Maintenance, Construction, Engineering Support, and Business support measures of the Department to ensure the safety of the public as well as efficient highways.

This job is located in the Santa Fe-Cerrillos Patrol.

Why does the job exist?

This position operates medium to heavy-duty equipment in a safe and efficient manner to maintain highways and roadways for the safety of the travel public.

How does it get done?

The incumbent will operate single axle dump trucks, large or small front-end loaders, some pull type tractors, self-propelled brooms, and rollers. The incumbent performs a variety of skilled maintenance duties required in the patrol and uses various hand tools. The incumbent will also perform snow removal in the winter season, respond to emergency operations including call outs, and remove trash, and dead animals from Right-of-Way.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:

- Roadway maintenance activities,
- Basic traffic control experience,
- Operating medium to heavy-duty equipment,
- Using various hand tools, and
- Customer service.

Minimum Qualification

High School diploma or equivalent and six (6) months of experience maintaining roads and operating medium to heavy-duty equipment to include loader, five (5) and ten (10) yard dump trucks, self-propelled brooms, rollers, or mowers. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience.

Must possess a valid driver's license and a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), (or equivalent licenses from another state) within one (1) year of hire. This position may require Herbicide, Tanker and/or Hazmat endorsement.

Employment Requirements

This position is designated a safety sensitive position within the meaning of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and must abide by all provisions of the Federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.

Employment requires successful completion of a post-offer physical and pre-employment drug test; employment is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License and must have or obtain a New Mexico Class B Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of hire. Tanker Endorsement may be required. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results.

Must successfully pass demonstrated abilities test with a 75% or better.
