High School Social Studies Teacher / Coach
Santa Fe Independent School District – Santa Fe High School – Santa Fe, Texas
Primary PurposeProvide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in core academic subjects to help them reach their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society and enlist in athletic programs.
Qualifications- Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work; experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI); demonstrated competency in core academic subject area; C.P.R. and First Aid certification;
Coach Official With Positive Expectations (C.O.P.E.) certification. - Requirements: Clear and valid Texas Commercial driver’s license with passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements; fewer than 10 license points; current Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training Certificate Card; must pass DOT physical and DOT drug and alcohol screening; CDL obtained within one year of employment.

Skills:
Knowledge of core academic subject; curriculum and instruction knowledge; ability to instruct and manage student behavior; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. - Experience: Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and demonstrate written evidence of preparation. Prepare lessons accommodating individual student differences.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional methods, activities, materials, equipment, and technology to reflect students’ learning styles and needs, following guidelines from the Texas Education Agency and district policies.
- Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students using IEP guidelines.
- Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
- Plan and assign work to instructional aides and volunteers and oversee completion.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement via formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
- Act as a positive role model for students; support the mission of the school district.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Compile, maintain, and file required reports, records, and documents.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Display tolerance and accept supervision and constructive criticism of performance.
- Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel.
- Use professional information discreetly and judiciously.
- Support and follow administrative and Board policy.
- Represent the school system to the community professionally.
- Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Direct the work of assigned instructional aides.
Physical and Environmental Requirements- Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer, peripherals; standard instructional equipment; P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED).
- Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
- Motion: Frequent walking.
- Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift textbooks and classroom equipment.
- Environment: Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to noise.
- Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $59,470 to $76,338 per year
