Position: Temp Payroll Clerk I / II

Wage Range

Wage Range that the Company Expects to Pay: $26.00 - $28.67 per hour

Summary

Under the general supervision of the Controller or designee, the Payroll Clerk is responsible for processing timely and accurate payroll and maintaining employee time records. The Payroll Clerk understands all aspects of employee compensation and deductions to provide excellent customer service to employees of the company. The Payroll Clerk will assist in various administrative activities to support the Finance and Human Resources departments.

The Payroll Clerk must maintain accuracy, integrity, and utmost confidentiality of employee and company information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Enter, maintain, and process information in the payroll system; information may include employee hourly rates, salaries, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
  • Prepare and process bi‑weekly payroll, review and ensure accuracy of approved time sheets, track and deduct all garnishments and other special payroll deductions.
  • Maintain employee records, ensure that employee changes are entered correctly and made on a timely basis, review changes for proper authorization and adhere with federal/state/local regulations.
  • Compile payroll data such as hours worked, taxes, insurance to be withheld, and employee identification number from time sheets and other records.
  • Review wages computed and correct errors to ensure accuracy of payroll.
  • Record changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records.
  • Record data concerning transfer of employees between departments.
  • Distribute labor and all related expenses through journal entries for the purpose of cost accounting.
  • Prepare periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions.
  • Record and process federal and state payroll tax deposits.
  • Keep records of leave pay and non‑taxable wages.
  • Issue, or reissue, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
  • Assist the Controller with administrating the retirement plans.
  • Provide payroll information answering questions and requests.
  • Demonstrate adherence to and observe all safety policies and procedures, inclusive of infection control rules and regulations.
  • Maintain highest levels of confidentiality, and privileged communications (patient, employee, and corporation).

Education and/or Experience
  • Experience with payroll software preferred.
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Associate's degree in business administration and one year of experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and one or more years of related experience.
Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of patients or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply sound judgment in understanding to carry out instructions in written or oral form. Ability to make appropriate job decisions following standard office policies and past precedents.

Computer Skills

Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, email, and keyboarding required. Intermediate Microsoft Office and Google Suite skills required. Ability to use ten‑key with ease.
