Position is full-time with full benefits and starts out between $23.00 - $27.00 per hour. Position works out of the Santa Maria area at the Little Village Early Head Start Center.
- Teach in partnership with the team teacher to develop weekly lesson plans for preschool children and maintain a safe and positive classroom climate and an intentional learning environment.
- Screen and assess each child using appropriate screening/assessment tools and individualize educational plans based on ongoing developmental assessments.
- Engage parents of various cultural backgrounds in their child's education and act as the second in command of site operations when the Site Supervisor is off site, as assigned.
- Maintain 100% supervision of all children by sight and sound when in the teacher/child ratio.
- Plan high quality, developmentally appropriate learning experiences with the team teacher.
- Carry out a bilingual, multicultural, anti-bias curriculum designed to meet children’s developmental needs within program guidelines.
- Develop positive relationships with each child and parent; maintain an indoor and outdoor classroom environment consistent with Head Start/Child Development, Licensing and Agency standards.
- Maintain the confidentiality of records and information of enrolled families.
- Assist children with self-care needs and ensure a safe, clean environment and organized materials indoors and outdoors.
- Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings and curriculum planning meetings; plan monthly/weekly curriculum with the team teacher and evaluate individualization of the curriculum and behavior plans if applicable.
- Work regularly with the team teacher to plan and evaluate individualization of the curriculum and behavior plans; manage large group and small group activities; plan and carry out transition activities for children entering or leaving the class/center.
- Maintain narrative records on each child related to development and complete required paper and electronic records in a timely manner; participate in assessments and screenings.
- Attend IEP meetings for special needs children with consultants, school district personnel and parents as required; attend parent meetings upon request; provide daily ongoing communication with parents regarding children’s activities, development, and special needs.
- Make at least two home visits and two parent conferences with each assigned child’s family annually; make special efforts to include fathers.
- Participate with supervisors and managers in evaluating and improving the program’s effectiveness; carry out responsibilities of staff supervision, licensing requirements and center operations when the Site Supervisor is away from the center.
- Consistently use positive child guidance methods and be available for pre-arranged evening or weekend home visits, meetings, or special events to meet the needs of working families.
- Be aware of all center children with food allergies and ensure substitutions as recommended by doctors; be sensitive to children with special needs; communicate effectively with families and co-workers.
- Perform other comparable duties as required.
Teacher II:
Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or related field and eligible for a Child Development Teacher permit or higher from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing with three semester units in supervised field experience. Six (6) infant and toddler units required.
Teacher III:
Bachelor's Degree or higher with 12 units of Early Childhood Education/Child Development and eligible for a Child Development Master Teacher permit or higher from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing with three semester units in supervised field experience and one year of experience…
