Summary
Under the direction of the Consumer Loan Underwriting Manager, the Consumer Loan Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and evaluating secured, unsecured and VISA loans in the Consumer Loan Department.

- Underwrites secured, unsecured and VISA loan applications.
- Evaluates all loans to maximize organizational profit and minimize risk or loss.
- Understands Loans
PQ and its application process. - Explores and offers counter options for all potential loans.
- Calculates income figures and debt to income ratios.
- Computes interest and payments.
- Maintains dealership relationships.
- Explains reason for denial and explores options to members.
- Performs within consumer loan lending limits approved by Board of Directors.
- Understandings risk-based lending.
- Reviews and understands credit reports and can interpret individual reports for members.
- Understands proper loan documentation and preparation.
- Responds to members’ inquiries and requests; assists in completing forms and documents.
- Resolves member and dealer issues and concerns.
- Assists with existing line of credit reviews.
- Reviews member requests to skip or modify payments.
- Understands and runs Kelley Blue Book®, Auto Check®, CVR’s and Chex Systems® reports.
- Assists members in understanding how their payments are posted to their accounts.
- Calculates payoff on vehicle loans for dealerships while ensuring member loan retention.
- Understands LOANLINER® and indirect lending paperwork.
- Regularly attends and participates in in-house training.
- Performs duties as assigned by management and may be assigned to work at any location.
The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the essential functions of this position.
Education And Experience- High school diploma or GED desired.
- Three or more years of increasingly responsible experience in and knowledge of consumer lending procedures, practices and policies and credit fundamentals.
- Two or more years of consumer loan processing experience.
Must be registered and in good standing with NMLS and renew registration each year.
Knowledge- Experience with Symitar®, Base 2000 and other computer systems and software needed to perform job.
- CA DMV policies and procedures.
- Credit Union products, services, programs and promotions.
Skills And Abilities
- Performs duties accurately and efficiently, even with frequent interruptions.
- Operates a variety of office equipment and machines.
- Travels, attends, and participates in meetings, seminars, and conferences held before and after normal business hours that may require unaccompanied long-distance travel and overnight lodging.
- Ability to work a variety of hours, including evenings and weekends.
