Custodial Substitute - Morning Shift

Position Summary

Allan Hancock College is accepting applications for temporary and on-call custodians for the Santa Maria campus supporting the Facilities Department. The successful candidate must pass a Department of Justice clearance before the start date.

• clean classrooms, offices, halls, and other rooms
• arrange furniture
• sweep, scrub, mop, strip, wax, and polish floors
• dust floors and ceilings
• apply sealer to cement floors
• vacuum, shampoo, and steam clean rugs and carpets
• vacuum drapes
• clean and properly maintain restrooms
• empty and clean trash and garbage cans
• clean chalkboards and chalk trays
• dust and wash furniture, bookshelves, woodwork, fixtures, counters, and equipment
• polish metal works, woodwork, and furniture
• wash walls and windows
• clean glass and mirrors
• sweep concrete surfaces/walkways adjacent to school buildings
• empty pencil sharpeners
• clean lights and light fixtures
• wash outside of buildings
• participate in thorough cleaning of college plant and facilities during recess/vacation periods
• maintain supplies
• make minor repairs
• move furniture and equipment
• secure buildings
• report safety hazards
• operate a district vehicle
• train and supervise student help
• and perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge of basic cleaning methods and basic safe work practices related to custodial work.

Demonstrated ability to learn and follow established cleaning methods and schedules; use cleaning materials and equipment efficiently; make minor non-technical repairs; work independently; understand and carry out simple oral and written directions; and work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work.

SALARY: $20.00 per hour.

Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 5:00 AM - 1:00 PM, Friday, 5:00 AM - 12:30 PM
