Controller, Accounting, Financial Compliance

We are representing our client, a high-growth software company based in Santa Monica, in hiring a Controller.

• Direct and manage the full spectrum of accounting activities—including AR, AP, general ledger, payroll, equity, revenue recognition, and tax—across a complex, multi-entity and multi-jurisdiction SaaS organization. Build and scale the accounting function to effectively support company growth trajectory.
• Own the month-end, quarter-end, and annual close cycles, driving accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness. Partner closely with FP&A, Rev Ops, Sales, Professional Services, People, and Legal to coordinate inputs, validate entries, uphold close timelines, and continually improve close efficiency.
• Prepare, review, and deliver accurate financial statements and internal reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow statement, and related supporting documentation.
• Lead the annual audit process and any interim reviews, acting as the primary liaison with external auditors. Ensure audit readiness, smooth execution, and high-quality outcomes.
• Maintain compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and tax obligations. Oversee local, state, federal, and international reporting requirements, including sales and payroll taxes, and address cross-border considerations such as Canadian operations.
• Assess and resolve complex technical accounting matters, including the adoption of new accounting standards. Draft and maintain technical accounting documentation and memos to support U.S. GAAP compliance.
• Drive the selection, implementation, and ongoing optimization of accounting systems and financial tools (e.g., ERP, billing, payroll, reporting platforms) to support scalability and minimize manual processes.
• Recruit, develop, and mentor the accounting team through continuous coaching, training, and feedback. Provide structured performance management, goal setting, and career development to strengthen technical skills and leadership depth.
• Establish and uphold robust accounting policies, internal controls, and procedures to protect company assets, support SOX and audit readiness, enhance operational efficiency, and mitigate financial and compliance risk. Regularly review and evolve processes as the organization grows.
• Analyze financial results and trends, translating data into clear insights for leadership. Present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial performance, highlighting key risks, variances, and areas of focus.

• CPA designation strongly preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, ideally within a high-growth SaaS or technology company.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with sound judgment and attention to detail.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership, external advisors, and audit partners.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to lead, influence, and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly convey complex financial concepts to non-financial audiences.
