Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Partner Accountant to join our Partnership Accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build on their existing experience within a leading law firm.

The role supports the firm's global partnership accounting and partner finance activities, including partner account reconciliations, profit allocations, capital management and partner payments. The position involves regular internal interaction with Partners and close collaboration with colleagues in the UK and US.

The role will have responsibility for multi-currency reconciliations to Elite 3E in transaction, unit and firm currencies, along with performing global accounting procedures and tasks that are unique to Partners.

About The Team

The team supports all aspects of partnership accounting across the firm globally. This includes partner services, calculation and payment of partner profit allocations, management of partnership capital and related loans, tax reserving, and the reconciliation and analysis of partner accounts.

Key Relationships

The Partnership Accounting and Tax team is split between the US and UK and sits within the wider Finance and Accounting Department. The successful candidate will work closely with the three other Partner Accounting Coordinators, one other Senior Partnership Accountant, the Partner Accounting Senior Manager and the Global Partnership Tax and Payroll Director. They will also work with the Partnership Tax team, and will need to build good relationships with the Financial Controllers, the Financial Accounting team and the Cash Operations team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting the Partnership Accounting team with all partner accounting processes globally including but not limited to the following tasks:
  • Partners  services including calculating and processing partner payments and preparation of individual partner statements.
  • Calculate, monitor and maintain partner capital, including the annual capital call, arranging loan finance drawdown and capital repayments.
  • Assisting with budgets and cash flows for partner remuneration and firm cash flow.
  • Preparation of partner journals and reconciling individual partner accounts to the cash and accrual balances within Elite 3E.
  • Induction and outgoing meetings with partners to go over their financials.
  • Working closely with the Partner Accounting Senior Manager to ensure a consistent approach between US and non US partners and assisting with identification and implementation of process improvements.
  • Providing assistance to the Global Partnership Tax and Payroll Director and Partner Accounting Senior Manager.
  • Assisting with audit and accounting queries in relation to partners.
  • Ability to cover tasks for other team members when they are out of the office and to assist team members during busy periods.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty to a high standard. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Experience And Knowledge
  • Part or fully qualified accountant desirable but not essential.
  • Demonstrable experience of all or most of the key tasks outlined above.
  • Minimum of seven years relevant experience working within a professional services or accountancy practice in a similar role, ideally a partnership accounting role within a law firm.
Essential Skills And Competencies
  • Advanced spreadsheet knowledge using Microsoft Excel skills are required.
  • A high level of attention to detail and accuracy are essential.
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Ability to use initiative and adapt to new processes and change.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels, both verbally and written, with the ability to multi task and critically review.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Flexibility of standard hours as required to ensure deadlines are met.
