- General Ledger and Real Estate Focus Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining a complete and accurate general ledger within an accounting and finance function, with an emphasis on real estate-related activities. You will manage day-to-day accounting operations, support month-end close, and ensure financial data is accurate, timely, and aligned with standardized procedures. This is a short-term assignment of approximately two months with potential for extension, offering the opportunity to contribute immediately to a busy finance team.
Responsibilities- Handle day-to-day accounting tasks to support ongoing business operations.
- Maintain and update the general ledger to ensure a complete and accurate record of financial transactions.
- Manage depreciation using the straight-line method and ensure correct application across relevant assets.
- Prepare key financial documents, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and budgets.
- Ensure taxes, general ledger entries, and other financial information are accurate, current, and properly documented.
- Perform month-end close activities, including preparing and posting journal entries.
- Reconcile balance sheets and profit and loss statements to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Post to the general ledger and review variances to budget, using the data to forecast changes to the business.
- Review variance explanation reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Track accounts receivable and confirm all payments are properly recorded in the system.
- Review account balances regularly to ensure they are correct and aligned with supporting documentation.
- Work primarily within standardized procedures and established practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide accurate financial information and support decision‑making.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably within a real estate environment.
- Strong general ledger accounting experience, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- Ability to manage depreciation using the straight‑line method.
- Experience preparing financial statements such as income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and budgets.
- Proficiency in tracking and reconciling accounts receivable and ensuring accurate recording of payments.
- Ability to review and analyze variances to budget and interpret financial data for forecasting purposes.
- Competence in basic computer functions and use of standard office software.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling financial data.
- Ability to work within standardized procedures and meet deadlines in a structured environment.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
- Experience in real estate accounting is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with MRI accounting systems is a plus.
- Experience preparing and reviewing variance explanation reports.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Ability to adapt quickly in a short‑term assignment and contribute immediately.
This role is based on‑site at a professional office location in downtown Los Angeles (700 S Flower St). The position follows a standard Monday through Friday schedule, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will work within a structured accounting and finance environment that relies on standardized procedures and established practices to meet deadlines and achieve objectives. The office setting is professional, and you can expect to use standard computer equipment and office software, along with specialized accounting systems such as MRI where applicable.
The work involves close collaboration with a finance team and requires a focus on accuracy, organization, and timely completion of tasks.
This is a Contract position based out of Los Angeles, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $37.00 - $37.00/hr.
