Job Duties

SMC Emeritus, started in 1975, is a noncredit older adult program of Santa Monica College. SMC Emeritus serves over 3,600 students annually and offers over 120 free classes of interest to senior citizens. All classes are held during the day at convenient locations throughout the community or at our home base on Second Street. The name Emeritus refers to people "retired with honor."

Job Duties

* Teach various courses related to a specific discipline of courses taught at Emeritus

* Communicate with students as necessary before, after and outside of class

* Maintain office hours

* Participate in department and college flex day activities

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications are specifically related to the discipline taught. Master's Degree in one of the following (organized by Disciplines currently taught at Emeritus)

Art

Master's in Fine Arts, Art or Art History

OR

Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in Humanities

OR

the equivalent

Art History

Master's in Art History, History of Art and Architecture or Visual Culture/Visual Studies

OR

Bachelor's in Art History AND Master's in History

OR

Master's in Art (with a recorded emphasis or concentration in Art History)

OR

the equivalent

Computer Science

Master's in Computer Science or Computer Engineering

OR

Bachelor's in Computer Science or Computer Engineering AND Master's in Mathematics, Cybernetics, Business Administration, Accounting or Engineering

OR

Bachelor's in Engineering AND Master's in Cybernetics, Engineering, Mathematics or Business Administration

OR

Bachelor's in Mathematics AND Master's in Cybernetics, Engineering, Mathematics or Business Administration

OR

Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in Information Science, Computer Information Systems or Information Systems
