Los Angeles County Office of Education is looking for individuals to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics for students who are on-track to receive a diploma and who are emotionally disturbed, at-promise, delinquent, neglected, involved in gangs, or on probation. There are permanent positions and substitute Para educator
- Academic assignments available throughout Los Angeles County. This is a supplemental recruitment. The resulting eligibility list will be merged to the existing eligibility list.
The well qualified candidate will possess the following:
- Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Math and reading skills
- Child and adolescent development and behavior management principles and practices
- Personal health and hygiene practices

Required
Education and Experience:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults with special behavioral, emotional, and learning needs is highly desirable.
Additional Requirements:
All candidates must pass the LACOE written test of ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics. AND Successfully complete the LACOE Para educator Workshop after passing the written test. Some positions may involve the handling and preparation of students' meals in accordance with the regulations of the National School Lunch Program and for which Safe Serve certification will be required.
Some positions in this classification may require travel and the availability of transportation.
Selection Process:
Candidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of written exam and a suitability questionnaire. Successful candidates will be invited to partake in the LACOE Para educator Workshop.
