Job Summary
The Special Education Teacher (Moderate/Severe Credential) provides specialized instruction and support to students with moderate-to-severe disabilities. The teacher develops and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), creates an inclusive and supportive learning environment, and collaborates with families, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams to help students achieve academic, social, behavioral, and functional goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Assess students’ academic, behavioral, communication, and functional needs.
- Design and deliver differentiated instruction tailored to individual learning needs.
- Implement positive behavior intervention strategies and behavior support plans.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and parents to support student success.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments, and IEP documentation.
- Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and technology to meet diverse learning needs.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Participate in IEP meetings, professional development, and school activities.
- Ensure compliance with all special education laws, policies, and district procedures.
Qualifications
- Valid Moderate/Severe Education Specialist Teaching Credential (or equivalent state certification).
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field;
Master’s degree preferred. - Knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and evidence-based instructional practices.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
- Experience working with students with moderate-to-severe disabilities is preferred.
