About the RoleThe Mechatronics Engineer sits at the intersection of highly visible electrical, mechanical, and product/studio discussions—turning ambitious concepts into real, finished solutions. We have a strong track record of building complete systems, spanning multiple market segments, including mobility and robotics. You’ll join a team that thrives on solving complex engineering challenges, adapting to unique project constraints, and having fun while we do it.
Expect variety, fast iteration, and meaningful ownership—plus plenty of opportunities to grow.
Responsibilities- Drive end-to-end development of integrated electromechanical systems—from early concept through prototyping and system integration
- Collaborate closely across electrical, mechanical, firmware, and product/studio teams to iterate quickly and converge on robust solutions
- Design, debug, and validate embedded systems involving microcontrollers, sensors, power conversion, and actuators
- Read, interpret, and modify schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts to support integration and troubleshooting
- Develop embedded firmware (bare-metal or embedded systems) to enable hardware bring-up, control, and integration
- Contribute to controls/robotics-style systems, including motor/servo actuation (BLDC or brushed systems) when applicable
- Plan and execute lab validation and characterization using standard EE tools (oscilloscopes, power supplies, loads, meters)
- Lead by example: organize work streams, document decisions, communicate clearly, and help teams execute
- Experience in immersive technical project environments (collegiate project teams or professional settings)
- Demonstrated leadership in technical settings (collegiate project teams or professional settings)
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage priorities across fast-moving work
- 3+ years of electrical design experience in a professional setting
- High competence with, and fluid use of, engineering first principles
- Familiarity with microcontrollers, power conversion, and system integration
- Ability to read, interpret, and manipulate schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts
- Experience in firmware development for bare-metal or embedded systems
- Experience with any of: controls, robotics, and/or motor/servo drive systems (BLDC/brushed motor controller design and/or servo control systems)
- BS or MS in an engineering field, or equivalent work experience
- Experience in ECAD (Altium, KiCad, etc.) and MCAD (Solid Works, NX, etc.)
- Experience with electromechanical and electrical design concepts
- Hands-on prototyping (soldering, board assembly, harnessing)
- Experience characterizing circuits at both schematic and board level
- Practical experience with lab tools (oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, multimeters)
- Familiarity with designing for rugged environments
- Experience developing complex electronics hardware products (e.g., UAVs, wearables, high-power electric propulsion, optical systems, or other complex mechanisms)
- Familiarity with wireless communication protocols
- Experience with microcontroller wired protocols: USB, MIPI CSI-2, SPI, I²C, CAN/CAN FD, UART/RS232/RS422/RS485
- Experience bringing up device trees on embedded systems with a variety of connected sensors
- Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills
- Must be commuting distance of Santa Monica, CA.
- Must be a US Citizen or valid green card holder.
- Collaborative, supportive team culture where cross-functional work is the norm and everyone contributes to problem-solving.
- Fast-paced, innovation-driven culture that values creativity, problem-solving, and technical mastery.
