The contractor will work closely with internal infrastructure, cloud, and application stakeholders, as well as external partners and Microsoft resources.
Key Responsibilities Discovery & Environment Assessment- Perform a detailed assessment of the existing VMware infrastructure, including virtual machines, storage, networking, and supporting services.
- Inventory and categorize workloads, identifying migration candidates vs. non-migratable workloads.
- Document application dependencies, performance requirements, and operational considerations.
- Identify technical risks, constraints, and readiness gaps related to Azure migration.
- Analyze workloads to determine suitability for Azure (e.g., lift-and-shift, refactor, rehost).
- Identify workloads not supported in Azure (e.g., certain infrastructure, appliance-based VMs, hybrid Exchange, SCCM) and document alternative hosting recommendations.
- Provide input on third‑party IaaS options (e.g., Rackspace or similar) for non-Azure workloads to avoid ongoing hypervisor licensing and hardware management.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define a migration approach, sequencing, and high‑level architecture.
- Assist in developing a phased migration plan, including dependencies and critical path items.
- Contribute to timeline estimates, milestones, and assumptions, refining estimates as assessment findings are completed.
- Align recommendations with Microsoft Azure best practices and funding program requirements.
- Work closely with internal teams (infrastructure, cloud, security, applications) to gather requirements and validate findings.
- Participate in working sessions and status discussions with leadership and technical stakeholders.
- Support coordination with Microsoft and partner teams involved in assessment funding and execution.
- Produce clear, concise documentation including:
- Current‑state assessment findings
- Workload classification and migration suitability
- Risks, constraints, and assumptions
- High‑level migration roadmap and timeline
- Ensure documentation is suitable for both technical and executive audiences.
- At least 3‑5 years of experience.
- Strong experience with VMware environments (vSphere, ESXi, related infrastructure).
- Hands‑on knowledge of Microsoft Azure IaaS and migration patterns.
- Experience performing cloud migration assessments and planning exercises.
- Ability to evaluate hybrid and legacy workloads and recommend alternative hosting strategies.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
