Job DescriptionGenerac is hiring a Lab Technician Intern to join our engineering team in Santa Monica, CA. In this role, you will support hardware testing, prototyping, and validation activities for our clean energy product line. You will work directly with engineers in the lab, getting hands‑on experience with real products in development. This internship is 5 days a week on‑site in Santa Monica, CA.
What You Will Do- Set up, operate, and maintain test equipment in the lab including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and electronic loads.
- Build cables, harnesses, and test fixtures to support hardware testing and validation.
- Conduct hardware tests on prototypes under engineer supervision.
- Document test setups, procedures, and results with accuracy and consistency.
- Support engineers in troubleshooting hardware issues and identifying root cause.
- Maintain lab organization, equipment calibration logs, and inventory.
- Follow lab safety protocols, including proper handling of electrical equipment and high‑voltage systems.
- Take ownership of a defined project that delivers tangible value to the team by the end of the internship.
- Hands‑on testing methodologies for hardware and power electronics products.
- How lab work supports the broader product development lifecycle from prototype to mass production.
- Industry‑standard test equipment, instrumentation, and measurement techniques.
- Electrical and lab safety practices in a real‑world engineering environment.
- The fundamentals of clean energy product development at Generac.
- Currently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Coursework or hands‑on experience with basic electronics, circuits, or electrical systems.
- Familiarity with common lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies).
- Comfortable with hand tools, soldering, and assembling electrical components.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and procedures in a lab environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Project experience working with physical electronics or power systems (academic, personal, or prior internship).
- Exposure to power electronics or clean energy technology.
- Familiarity with cable harness assembly, fixture building, or PCB rework.
- Interest in clean energy technology and renewable energy systems.
- Prior internship, co‑op, or hands‑on lab experience in a technical environment.
The work requires regular speaking and hearing; use of hands to manipulate objects or controls, standing, walking, occasional stooping, bending, or reaching above the shoulders. It may involve lifting up to 25 pounds. The job is typically computer‑based with periods of sitting, close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel may be required.
