Expert for Solid State Circuit Breaker (m/f/d)
Join us as an Expert for Solid State Circuit Breaker (m/f/d).
Your mission:
- Define and optimize topologies for solid-state/hybrid circuit breakers, fault current limiters, and fast protection devices using IGBTs, MOSFETs, SiC, and thyristors. Tailor switching strategies for PV, EV, BESS, and data center applications, balancing efficiency, reliability, and cost.
- Lead high-fidelity switching behavior and fault scenario simulations (LTspice, PLECS, etc.) to validate performance under real-world conditions. Optimize dynamic response, losses, and protection coordination through modeling and empirical testing.
- Track cutting-edge power semiconductor roadmaps (SiC, GaN, etc.) and leverage new device capabilities for product innovation. Evaluate thermal, electrical, and reliability trade-offs in device selection for high-power applications.
- Actively contribute to CIGRE, IEC, IEEE working groups on DC protection, MVDC/HVDC systems, and solid-state breakers. Drive adoption of next-gen protection strategies in emerging grid and industrial applications.
- Work with R&D, product development, and application engineering to translate technical insights into market-ready solutions. Mentor engineering teams on advanced power electronics and protection concepts.
Your areas of expertise:
- MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a closely related field.
- Professional experience of 5+ years of working in power electronics design with a strong focus on high-power semiconductor applications for switching and current interruption.
- Hands-on experience with hybrid DC breakers, resonant/current-injection breakers, and semiconductor-assisted interruption for fast fault isolation. Expertise in coordinated energy absorption design (MOVs, snubbers, varistors) to enhance semiconductor survivability during faults.
- Proven collaboration with semiconductor vendors & module manufacturers to develop custom/optimized devices (e.g., high-voltage SiC modules, press-pack thyristors). Deep understanding of device ruggedness, switching losses, and thermal management in high-power applications.
- Strong track record of patents, publications, or technical whitepapers in power electronics, DC protection, or semiconductor switching (preferred). Participation in industry consortia or R&D projects advancing solid-state protection technologies.
- Experience in high-power converters with demanding transient and protection requirements (MVDC/HVDC, drives, renewables)
- Deep understanding of semiconductor device physics and switching behavior, including SOA, thermal management, linear-mode operation, and failure mechanisms under fault conditions.
- Experience with gate-driver design for high-voltage/high-current devices.
Your rewards of working here:
- Our culture is characterized by innovative power and team spirit as well as the intensive exchange of knowledge and experience within our global network.
- We offer healthy meals ranging from traditional Chinese to western delicacies in our famous company canteen.
- To keep your development ongoing, you will find a broad range of training opportunities. Many online and face-to-face training programs incl. language courses in German and Mandarin.
- Our diverse and welcoming environment is shaped by different backgrounds and around 40 individual nationalities.
- Self-responsible work in a competent, motivated and constantly growing team.
Please send your application and CV (incl. cover letter and reference letters) in English.
