Position: Venture Capital Job – Hard Tech Investment Associate – Upfront Ventures

We are looking for an Investment Associate to join our Hard Tech team in Santa Monica, CA.

The Hard Tech team partners with founders building companies that transform fundamental industries through breakthrough technological innovation in areas such as aerospace, manufacturing, robotics, semiconductors, and advanced materials. We typically invest at the Seed and Series A stages and are excited by companies that blend deep science with scalable business models.

Upfront is seeking an Associate to join its Hard Tech investment team. This is a unique opportunity for an individual with a passion for frontier technologies and venture capital to play a crucial role in supporting all aspects of our investment process, from sourcing and diligence to portfolio support.

What you’ll do:

Support all aspects of the investment process, including market research, competitive analysis, and financial modeling.

Source new investment opportunities by building relationships with entrepreneurs, accelerators, universities, and other members of the startup ecosystem.

Conduct due diligence on prospective investments, including product/technology deep dives, customer calls, and team assessments.

Prepare investment memos and presentations for the investment committee.

Support portfolio companies with strategic initiatives, fundraising, and talent acquisition.

Represent Upfront at industry events and conferences.

Who you are:

2-4 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, management consulting, investment banking, or a startup with exposure to the hard tech ecosystem.

Strong analytical, financial modeling, and research skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely.

A strong understanding of hard tech sectors (e.g., aerospace, manufacturing, robotics, semiconductors, advanced materials) and emerging trends.

A self-starter with a proactive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

A passion for technology, innovation, and supporting entrepreneurs.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business, or a related field. Master’s or PhD is a plus.
