Work Location: Santa Monica, CA, USA
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday ; including call shifts as assigned
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Assist the Gastroenterology Technician III in endoscope and equipment decontamination/reprocessing.
- Serve as departmental expert in endoscope and equipment reprocessing.
- Assist with equipment and procedure room preparation, setup, and calibration prior to procedures.
- Assist with procedure room breakdown and specimen collection in the GI Lab.
- Perform inventory control and patient billing.
- Test, arrange repair, and document endoscope processing and repair.
- Assist physician and nurse during routine procedures (Colonoscopy, EGD, Sigmoidoscopy, Motility Procedures).
- Assist during complex interventional procedures (ERCP, EUS, Fine Needle Aspiration, Biopsy, Bronchoscopy).
- Collect tissue and fluid specimens during diagnostic and invasive procedures.
- Retrieve specimen from biopsy device, implant/mount/suspend specimen using microscope slides, mesh, or suspension solutions.
- Label and log the specimens and deliver them to the appropriate pick‑up station.
- Strongly preferred two years of general GI and Interventional GI procedure experience.
- Knowledge and adherence to GI Lab policies and procedures following orientation.
- Skill in reading documents written in Standard English such as administrative policy and procedure manuals.
- Skill in evaluating and implementing technical information such as operation manuals and directions for use of disinfectants, lubricants and other cleaning agents.
- Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly to obtain and convey information to various levels within the organization.
- Writing skills sufficient to use appropriate vocabulary and grammar when logging, reporting, etc.
- Ability to speak one‑on‑one using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and provide information.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all team members and ancillary staff.
- Skill in performing with frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
- Skill in setting priorities accurately reflecting importance to job responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently and interdependently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
- Ability to adapt to changes in workload or assignments.
- Skill and manual dexterity required to work with intricate equipment without dropping or damaging it.
- Ability to stand for prolonged time periods.
