HVAC Service Manager
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Service Manager who will serve as our Lead Technician, overseeing the entire diagnostics-to-resolution process for residential HVAC service calls. This role integrates hands-on technical expertise with leadership, involving diagnosing complex issues, proposing and closing solutions with homeowners, and coaching a team of technicians to deliver quality, safety, and exceptional customer service.
Responsibilities- Perform advanced diagnostics on residential HVAC systems, including gas/electric furnaces, heat pumps, mini-splits, package units, condensers, air handlers, IAQ systems, and smart thermostats.
- Develop clear solution options, such as repair versus replacement, present proposals, and secure approval for work with homeowners.
- Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer specifications, code requirements, and company standards.
- Conduct quality control checks, analyze callbacks, and perform root-cause reviews to minimize repeat visits.
- Act as the primary technical resource for technicians, providing live troubleshooting support, managing escalations, and accompanying on ride-alongs.
- Train and mentor technicians on diagnostics, brazing, charging, superheat/subcooling, combustion analysis, airflow verification, and proper documentation.
- Lead daily and weekly huddles, assign workloads, and uphold safety and performance standards.
- Communicate clearly with homeowners regarding findings, options, warranties, and maintenance plans.
- Write accurate and detailed estimates/work orders, capture photos and notes, and ensure customer approvals.
- Promote maintenance agreements and system upgrades when beneficial to the customer.
- Maintain inventory standards on service vehicles and coordinate with the warehouse for parts forecasting.
- Enforce OSHA and company safety policies and support permitting and code compliance as needed.
- Monitor KPIs such as first-time fix rate, average response time, callback rate, revenue per ticket, and proposal close rate.
- Collaborate with Install/Dispatch teams to ensure smooth handoffs, accurate scheduling, and minimal downtime.
- 10+ years of residential HVAC service experience, including advanced diagnostics and system repairs.
- Proven experience in leading or mentoring technicians in the field.
- Strong homeowner-facing communication and effective proposal/closing skills.
- Proficiency with digital gauges, combustion analyzers, micron gauges, recovery/recycling procedures, and common service software like Service Titan or Housecall Pro.
- Valid driver's license with a clean record.
Skills & Qualifications
- Heat pump commissioning, inverter/communicating systems, and zoning controls expertise.
- Familiarity with duct design and airflow balancing (Manual D / Manual J).
- Experience with low-voltage controls and smart home integrations.
- Strong documentation habits and adeptness with technology (mobile apps, digital forms).

Work EnvironmentThis is a full-time position with an on-call rotation for after-hours and emergency services as needed. The role is primarily field-based with occasional shop or office time for meetings, training, and quality control. The candidate must be able to lift 50+ lbs., climb ladders, work in attics/crawlspaces, and tolerate seasonal temperature variations.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Santa Monica, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $94000.00 - $104000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
