Position: Product Software Engineer I

Job Summary:

Knowledge Management is a tightly‑knit team working within the Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology’s (DEEPT) Data department. We focus on ingesting, managing and serving knowledge to various products as part of adding intelligence to various products. Our knowledge management platform serves data to agentic systems that allows them to ingest knowledge and surface it as intelligence.

As the business place moves toward more data‑driven decision making, the ability to access data easily becomes very important. In turn, we work closely with Data Science, Marketing, and Personalization teams to create one‑of‑a‑kind applications that enable the Disney Company to reach new heights of customer outreach and conversion. While we use known technologies to speed our development process, we also contribute to and push enterprise design and productivity through our innovative partnerships.

Using your skills and experience in big data application development, you will join a fun team of technically capable individuals that pride themselves on delivering the highest quality product. Most of our applications are written in Databricks and Snowflake with python as fundamental programming language, but we can cover many languages and frameworks with our breadth of experience. In this role, you will focus on building a knowledge management platform with a focus on metadata management of assets and people analytics.

The work is fun and challenging, and we are often asked to break new ground in terms of user experience and application functionality.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:
  • Data Platform tooling and application development using Python, airflow, databricks, Snowflake tech stack - Creation, maintenance, and support of a Near‑Real‑Time pipelines from API-layer outward
  • Planning discussions, team interactions, creating feature proposals
  • Broader platform team discussions and interactions
Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

You'll work alongside experienced engineers, learn from real‑world projects, and help build solutions that drive meaningful impact.

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to the successful implementation of solutions that support our platform and, at times, broader Disney Entertainment & ESPN teams.
  • Help develop and enhance frameworks, development environments, build systems, and engineering tools.
  • Assist with evaluating existing technologies, exploring future initiatives, and identifying effective implementation approaches.
  • Contribute to platform and project architecture discussions and help bring those solutions to life.
  • Support a clean, maintainable codebase by following shared coding standards and best practices.
  • Become a key member of a collaborative team focused on continuous improvement, scalability, maintainability, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop big data applications that contribute to a unified platform and user experience.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well‑tested code.
  • Participate in an on‑call rotation supporting platform tools and services.
  • Deliver reliable, maintainable software as part of an Agile development team.
  • Partner with engineers, designers, and testers to build high‑quality features.
  • Create documentation that helps share knowledge, improve processes, and support future development efforts.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Experience developing distributed applications using technologies such as Python and Databricks.
  • Experience building or contributing to big data applications through coursework, projects, internships, or professional experience.
  • Knowledge of software testing practices, including unit testing and front‑end testing frameworks.
  • Experience working on projects involving Snowflake, Databricks, or similar data technologies.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and modern software development workflows.
  • Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
