- Serve as a trusted advisor to wineries, vineyard owners, wine producers, and closely held businesses
- Lead and review federal, state, and local tax returns for winery, vineyard, agribusiness, and related consumer product clients
- Manage tax planning, compliance, and consulting projects
- Handle inventory costing (UNICAP), production accounting, valuation considerations, and state apportionment for multi-state producers and distributors
- Provide guidance on beverage alcohol regulations, excise tax considerations, and wine-sector entity structures
- Conduct technical research and provide practical recommendations
- Oversee and review ASC 740 tax provision work
- Manage multiple engagements and ensure timely, high-quality delivery
- Supervise, develop, and mentor staff and seniors
- Maintain relationships with controllers, winemakers, CFOs, and ownership groups
- Identify additional service, cross-selling, and value-add opportunities
- Support BPM's wine-industry presence through events, associations, and thought leadership
- Assist with proposal development and onboarding new clients
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA license, EA, or JD required at the Manager level
- 5+ years of public accounting tax experience
- At least 2 years focused on wineries, vineyards, agribusiness, CPG, or manufacturing environments
- Demonstrated experience reviewing complex tax returns and managing staff
- Strong understanding of wine production cycles, agricultural cost accounting, UNICAP rules, and inventory costing preferred
- Experience with multi-entity structures, family-owned operations, or private equity-backed wine businesses preferred
- Familiarity with beverage alcohol regulatory requirements, including TTB and excise taxes, preferred
- Experience with cloud-based accounting/tax software and workflow platforms preferred
Demonstrates expertise in tax planning, compliance, and consulting for wineries and agribusinesses, with a strong focus on beverage alcohol regulations and inventory costing. Proven ability to manage multiple engagements while mentoring staff and maintaining client relationships.
