Associate faculty assignments are temporary, part‑time and/or on‑call and may be immediate or as needed. The Sonoma County Junior College District does not offer remote‑only assignments.
Compensation & Benefits- Part‑time hourly assignment up to 67% of a full‑time load.
- Starting hourly rate is based on the district salary schedules.
- Compensation for assigned classes is paid over the duration of the assignment.
- Medical insurance for eligible individuals.
- Sick leave accrual on a pro‑rated basis.
- Retirement options:
CalSTRS Defined Benefit, CalSTRS Cash Balance, and Social Security.
- Provide instruction and faculty support to students, including evening, weekend, online, hybrid and/or off‑campus assignments.
- Deliver academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Maintain currency in your field(s) of expertise.
- Focus on providing instruction and/or student services.
- Perform additional district or department services (committee work, evaluations, student learning outcomes assessment, hiring committees) as requested for additional compensation.
- Master’s degree in African‑American/Black/Africana Studies, or a Bachelor’s degree in that field plus a Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies, or the equivalent, or a fully satisfied California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Ethnic Studies.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students.
- Creative, multidisciplinary scholarship that brings together new ideas and methodologies.
- Creative, inspiring, robust pedagogy with diverse audiences.
- Participation in equity‑promoting projects and events, including collaboration, shared governance, and inclusion of overlooked communities.
- Experience teaching courses in African‑American Studies.
- Bilingual proficiency.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti‑racism.
